Guide to Portland, Maine

Breakfast/Brunch

Fun and unique donuts to kickoff your day! My favorites are the maple which is more subtle and the sweet potato coffee cake (pictured here)!

Standard Baking Co

Tons of great pastry options for breakfast on the go! Pre order online so you don’t have to wait in line.

Their blueberry scones were our favorite! Check out their cookbook to recreate some of their best

Lunch

Portland Lobster Company

Excellent local spot for all things lobster and lobster rolls!

A quick 25 minute drive from Downtown Portland, Harraseeket Lunch + Lobster is a great destination to drive for delicious seafood.

They offer a $25 combo that’s a 1 LB lobster, 1/2 LB of steamers and corn- which is a great deal but you can’t go wrong here!

Dinner

Famous for their Brown Butter Lobster Rolls which are delicious! They do not take reservations and there’s usually a long line to get in for lunch or for dinner. I would recommend placing an order for pickup of lobster rolls and potato chips and find a nice place to eat them outside!

Central Provisions

Central Provisions is a must visit tapas style restaurant downtown. Our standouts on the menu were the :

  • Suckling pig with an apple sauce puree which was so moist and delicious

  • Cauliflower Agnolotti

  • Burrata- a classic but done very well

  • Tuna Niçoise special- a very big dish that is well balanced and delicious

  • Yellow squash over a mole sauce with a crunchy topping- so good!

  • For dessert the Key Lime Pie is unreal. It has a thin layer of a brown butter graham crust which has the perfect crumble, topped with the perfect layer of key lime followed by vanilla whipped cream and lime zest- perfection!

A great upscale restaurant on the water with great local fish, seafood and desserts!

Bite into Maine

Food truck located in the parking lot of Allagash Brewing Company. Great lobster rolls made in different styles- Maine Style, Connecticut Style, and Chipotle Style (trio pictured here) as well as sausage and pretzels!

One of the most special meals we had during our trip to Portland. In my opinion, this is a cannot miss restaurant. Definitely come here if you’re celebrating something special!

Leeward

  • We did not have the opportunity to check out Leeward on this trip, but heard from local foodies that it’s one of the new hot spots in town and is a must-go for homemade pastas and more!

Cocktails/Drinks

Fun prohibition-era speakeasy with $12 cocktails

Blyth and Burrows

Fun cocktail bar with speakeasy vibes. Our favorite drinks were:

  • Bird of paradise: a clarified piña colada that is very refreshing and light

  • Ship Captain Crew: a smoked whiskey cocktail. Small but great

Wharf Street

Wharf Street is a fun street in Downtown Portland that has a ton of little dive bars, each with their own personality. I would recommend walking around and checking out multiple! Great place to feel out the crowd and check out a few bars for a night out.

Breweries

Allagash has an awesome selection of beers and are most famous for their Allagash White Witbier. They also offe a ton of special on-site only beers

The brewery has a great outdoor seating setup with picnic tables, corn hole and games as well as food from Bite into Maine, a local food truck parked in the Allagash parking lot

Awesome IPAs

Great flight offerings

Great beer and fresh wood fired pizza. The pizzas are big and perfect for sharing. We highly recommend the peach + ‘nduja pizza- it’s 🔥🔥🔥

Shipyard has a great indoor space which is perfect for a rainy day. It has a cute interior with a store and a big open tasting room in the back. The offer great flights- 4 beers (5 oz) for $10- our favorite was the Founders Beer
