Guide to Hudson, New York

Getting to Hudson

My recommendation for transportation depends on how long you’re planning to go for and what types of activities you are looking to do. For a short weekend trip, you can easily get away with taking the Amtrak to Hudson and not having a car for the weekend. If you’re feeling adventurous and excited to explore the Hudson Valley area, I would highly recommend having/renting a car for the trip!

Amtrak

We took the Amtrak, which came out to ~$36 per ticket (or $72 round trip). The trains seem to sell out quickly, so I’d recommend booking in advance if you can.

Pro tip! If you’re taking the Amtrak, make sure you sit on the LEFT side on the way TO Hudson, or on the RIGHT side on your way home FROM Hudson to ensure you get the scenic views of the Hudson River along the way!

Where to Stay

The Wick Hotel is a part of Marriott’s Tribute portfolio of boutique hotels. It’s a 55 room full-service hotel located across the street from the train station (just a few short blocks away from the town’s main street, Warren). The. property is aptly named as the historic building was formerly a candle factory.

The rooms were nice but nothing over the top. For the price point, it gives you everything you need and not a drop more.

The Maker Hotel is a stunning 11-room boutique hotel located on Warren Street in the heart of town. While the price point is much higher, you’re paying for a luxury experience, access to an outdoor pool, gym, the lounge, juice bar, cafe, and restaurant. Even if you’re not staying here, I would highly recommend spending time at their beautiful restaurants and checking out the unique property!

Where to Eat Breakfast

Breadfolks Bakery

For your morning coffee and pastry run, Breadfolks is the. perfect spot. They have all of your usual coffee offerings in addition to a great iced chai, and their fresh pastries are out-of-this-world good. Pick up a stuffed cruffin or freshly baked croissant- we loved the almond croissant pictured here but you absolutely cannot go wrong here.

Be sure to grab a loaf of their seeded sourdough before you head out of town- it is delicious and freezes well so you can have a little taste of Hudson on hand at all times.

Le Perche

Kitty’s

If you’re perusing town on a Saturday morning, I would definitely check out the Hudson Farmers Market which is located just off of 6th Street. The market is open on Saturday’s from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and has a great offering of local produce, meats, and is accompanied by a different musician each week.

Where to Have Lunch

Two words. Sourdough. Pizza.

Delicious. A great spot for lunch or dinner, I would highly recommend Baba Louie’s for a very shareable and casual meal of salads and pizza.

Pictured here is the Melanzana Cardinale pizza with fresh mozzarella, pesto, smoked gouda, roasted eggplant, tomatoes and garnished with parmesan and red pepper flakes. I have also heard great things about the Abbondante BBQ chicken pizza, or you can make your own!

If you’re planning a picnic or are staying in Hudson for a few days, Talbot & Arding is a must visit. Talbot & Arding is a beautiful market with a wide variety of local produce, freshly baked goods, local products from granola to cheeses and meats, and a beautiful case of prepared foods. A great place to help you make your picnic dreams come true!

Located near the water (and next door to the Antique Warehouse), Hudson Brewing Company is a great place to cool down and settle down with a flight! They have a large variety of beers, from hazy IPAs like “Shady Sadie” to a spicy cucumber and jalapeño infused “Hot As A Cucumba” blonde ale and a refreshing “State St. Swill” pineapple cider.

They also have a food truck out front and plenty of games to keep your party occupied!

The Cascades

If you’re looking for a delicious deli sandwich or wrap, The Cascades is the perfect place to stop by for breakfast or lunch while you’re exploring Hudson!

Local Spots for Dinner

If you’re heading to Hudson, Feast and Floret is an absolute must visit. The beautiful farm-to-table Italian restaurant features fresh and local gems. Indoor and outdoor seating is available, although we loved sitting inside by the beautiful bar overlooking the semi-open kitchen.

To eat: Start with the fennel salad with bright citrus and salty Castelvetrano olives. Check out the chicken liver tostadas, which are overflowing with a very generous portion of chicken liver. A little bit messy but delicious nonetheless. Keep an ear out for their nightly specials! We didn’t have an opportunity to try the duck special during our visit but have heard rave reviews! We also had the pappardelle special, with fresh peas, bright lemon, and parmesan cheese. It was the perfect summer pasta. To finish things off, we ended with the pork ribs, which were so tender, smokey and delicious!

A true local farm-to-table restaurant that works to highlight the delicious food produced in the Hudson Valley.

To drink: for a refreshing tequila cocktail, check out the Caballo Blanco and for a more serious, spirit forward cocktail, go for the American Trilogy.

To eat: Kick off your meal with an order of Frittura di Calamaretti followed by the charcoal roasted beets, which are paired with a delicious buttermilk dressing. For entrees, we enjoyed the cast-iron duck breast with a black pepper-sour cherry jus, and the Shadowbrook Farm Bar Burger with braised onions and hand-cut fries!

For a Sweet Fix- Dessert

Cute ice cream shop in town that has a small “beach” on the sidewalk and often hosts live music!

After Dinner Cocktails/Drinks

We only had a chance to check out BackBar for drink this trip, but their food is supposed to be an excellent offering of Southeast Asian cuisine. If you’re looking for a place to sit outside under the string lights and enjoy a tequila slushie, this is the place for you!

The Maker Lounge is a beautiful bar nested at the back of the Maker Hotel. It’s dark and sleek and gives off NYC speakeasy vibes. Sit at the bar and pick your poison, the mixologists are awesome and will whip you up some delicious cocktails!
