Pick up a stuffed cruffin or freshly baked croissant- we loved the almond croissant pictured here but you absolutely cannot go wrong here. Sourdough. Pizza. Delicious. A great spot for lunch or dinner, I would highly recommend Baba Louie’s for a very shareable and casual meal of salads and pizza. Pictured here is the Melanzana Cardinale pizza with fresh mozzarella, pesto, smoked gouda, roasted eggplant, tomatoes and garnished with parmesan and red pepper flakes. For a short weekend trip, you can easily get away with taking the Amtrak to Hudson and not having a car for the weekend. If you’re feeling adventurous and excited to explore the Hudson Valley area, I would highly recommend having/renting a car for the trip! Amtrak We took the Amtrak, which came out to ~$36 per ticket (or $72 round trip). The trains seem to sell out quickly, so I’d recommend booking in advance if you can. Pro tip! To eat: Kick off your meal with an order of Frittura di Calamaretti followed by the charcoal roasted beets, which are paired with a delicious buttermilk dressing. The. property is aptly named as the historic building was formerly a candle factory. The rooms were nice but nothing over the top. They have a large variety of beers, from hazy IPAs like “Shady Sadie” to a spicy cucumber and jalapeño infused “Hot As A Cucumba” blonde ale and a refreshing “State St. Swill” pineapple cider. The beautiful farm-to-table Italian restaurant features fresh and local gems. Indoor and outdoor seating is available, although we loved sitting inside by the beautiful bar overlooking the semi-open kitchen. To eat: Start with the fennel salad with bright citrus and salty Castelvetrano olives. Check out the chicken liver tostadas, which are overflowing with a very generous portion of chicken liver. A little bit messy but delicious nonetheless. Keep an ear out for their nightly specials! We didn’t have an opportunity to try the duck special during our visit but have heard rave reviews! We also had the pappardelle special, with fresh peas, bright lemon, and parmesan cheese. It was the perfect summer pasta.
